The way it ought to be

I’ll answer the question for the Helena Independent Record: Let him play.

I don’t know everything about the specifics, but I know that we, as a nation, have an issue with actually forgiving and moving on. In fact, we’re fucking stupid about it.

Let me lay this out for you, and it’s pretty simple – we have to believe that our system works, or we better come up with something better. (Hint: there isn’t one, so get over it.)

Since we put Jordan Johnson through the legal system and a jury of his peers found him to be not guilty (which, yes, isn’t the same as innocent, but don’t be pedantic) he should be able to resume his life and get back to being what he wants to be. That’s the deal, people.

If we don’t do that, we don’t deserve to be able to punish those we find guilty as charged, because then the whole process is a farce. Our agreement with ourselves is that this system is fair and balanced, and we best adhere to that or our whole society falls apart.

Which is exactly what we’re dealing with right now.
