Monday’s Events

Just a quick update for those who might be curious:

  1. Sales for RED: Which is always fun, I’m meeting some amazing people in Houston. Now if they would just advertise!
  2. Open Mic at the Laff Stop: I did it and for the first time I used notes to guide me through my set. The problem arose when a new concept popped into my head that was funnier than what I’d thought of before but didn’t lead to the same place. So I had to stop staring at my notes and improv my way back to my original destination. Which actually was a good thing, as it taught me that I don’t need specific notes, I just need the concepts and the ability to improv to and from them so that I can connect the dots. Always fun!
  3. Broadway Mondays at Meteor: I went to the first night and sang a bit, which was fun, the problem was that I didn’t know that accompanist, who is great but new to me, and the songs weren’t terribly new to me, but were to him, and I don’t begrudge anyone who sight reads music because that’s amazingly hard, but I could have been better. However, the night was fun and ended well, and standards are standards and that’s always fun to do. Too bad that most of the standards are slow songs and not always the most exciting or uplifting. Well, that’s not true, but having an audience request for the entire catalog of music from Les Mis could lead one to drink. Thank god Meteor is one of the most well stocked bars in Houston!

So that was my monday. How was yours?

  1. La Cage Aux Folles, Song in the Sand (from La Cage as well), Popular (from Wicked, although that was a disaster due to not having a rehearsal with the pianist), Summertime (Porgy and Bess), and a few others. Good times.
